Canoeing on Lake McDonald

Glacier National Park

On our last day in the park, we only had a half day because we planned to drive to Sandpoint, Idaho by evening. We decided against a hike which would have left us sweaty for the drive. Instead, we went canoeing on Lake McDonald. Originally, we stopped at the Lake McDonald Lodge, thinking we could rent a canoe there, but the only place with canoes is Apgar Village.

We paddled out into the lake. We didn't go too far, so all my photos look pretty much the same - it is a nice view of the mountains when looking east into the park. Extensive fire damage was evident on the north shore. Looking west, we spotted the lookout tower (actually, we saw the radio antennas) on the top of Apgar Peak, which we had climbed on the first day of our visit.

After canoeing, we stopped for ice cream to nourish us on the drive to Sandpoint. From Sandpoint it is about 300 miles home to Seattle on the final day of the vacation. Casey Jr and Scooter were glad to see us!
