Cascade Falls: 6.8 miles round trip, 300' elevation gain

For our last hike, we did the easy walk to Cascade Falls. It is a nice hike at low elevation without much climbing. We walked through an area called Summerland Park, which seems to border a working ranch. We walked up the valley under warm sunny skies until we reached the Cascade Falls. The falls themselves aren't that impressive, but they are nice enough to see.

After Cascade Falls we drove over to the Adams Falls hike. It is just 0.3 miles to those falls, which is just as well, because we felt a few drops of rain and the skies were getting darker. Indeed, after we left Adams Falls and started our drive back to Estes Park, we were caught in a ferocious downpour of rain and hail. I couldn't see much except the car in front of me, so I just slowly followed him up the winding switchbacks, with windshield wipers going at maximum speed. I am glad we were not caught out on a hike in that kind of weather!

Back in Estes Park we ate a big dinner at the Bighorn Restaurant, and then we did our last evening walk through Estes Park. We drove back down to Denver the next morning, and flew back to Seattle without any incident. It was a terrific visit. There is a lot more in Colorado to see, so there is a good chance we will return to see more highlights in this scenic state.

Here is a photo of the map on the signboard at Cascade Falls Trailhead. You can see Flattop Mountain on the upper right corner, but we planned to only go as far as Cascade Falls.
