This website is the summary of our trip to the Lofoten Islands in the summer of 2025. It was the same party of six that had done previous adventures in Iceland and the Dolomites.
The Lofoten Islands are at about the same latitude as the Kungsleden trek we did in 2017. We did that hike from Aug 22 to Sept 2, so
both trips were made at the end of August and enjoyed reasonably good weather. The Lofoten Islands are above the Arctic Circle, so there is plenty of daylight, even though we traveled there well after the solstice. The Lofoten Islands are renown for their rugged beauty. Because they are so far north, there are few trees, but there are steep mountains, cliffs
and bays that give hikers panoramic views from strategic viewpoints. Unlike Kungsleden, where we did hut-to-hut hiking, the Lofoten Islands trip was comprised entirely of day hikes. This map shows the hikes we did and the three places (in blue) where we stayed
in rental apartments. Although we did not hike it, I am showing the Mannen hike, which is right next to the Veggen hike, Due to the trail conditions on Veggen, I suggest considering Mannen as an alternative. I also show the Neshia
Summit hike, which in hindsight I wish we would have attempted on our last day after completing Offersøykammen. Drive 6 Km, 10 min to Moskenes ferry and leave the car there (don't take on boat) Ferry to Værøy arrives at island at 10:15 AM. Hornet +346 meters, 3.2 Km, 1.5 hrs Håen +438 meters, 3 Km, 1 hr. Ferry leaves Værøy at 10:45 PM, returns at midnight This day got rained out, we did not do any hikes today. Our plan was to do either Tindstinden or Munken Hut and Summit. Both use the same trailhead, and it might be
hard to park. Also, start of the trail might be muddy. Consider Volandstinden instead? Drive 23 Km, 1/2 hr to Ryten/Kvalvika trailhead Ryten summit and Kvalvika Beach +543 meters, 3.5 Km, 3 hours Drive 5 Km, 6 min to Volandstind viewpoint Drive 5 Km, 5 min to Ramberg Beach Parking Drive 1/2 hr, 24 Km back to Reine rental. Drive 8 min, 3 Km to Vinstad ferry terminal Take 10:15 AM Ferry from Reine to Vinstad. Must reserve tickets for popular ferry in advance! Helvetestind +602 meters, 8 Km roundtrip, 4-5 hrs
Bunes Beach +80 meters, 2.8 Km, 1 hr Take 3:25 PM ferry back to Reine. Drive from Reine 2 1/4 hrs, 121 Km to Kabelvåg Feriehus and Camping. Stay 3 nights in Apartment Rosa in Kabelvåg 3 bedrooms, for three nights Three peak hike: Fløya and Djevelporten, Blåtinden and Tuva, 8 Hrs, 12 Km Tuva +434 meters, 5 Km, Drive48 min, 41 Km to northern Matmora Trailhead Hike Matmora Summit +844 meters, 13 Km, 6 hrs. Drive 47 min, 41 Km back to Kabelvåg Feriehus and Camping. Drive from Kabelvåg Feriehus 2 hrs, 95 Km to Nusfjord, stopping at Haukland Beach and Uttakleiv Beach. Veggen +489 meters, 1.75 Km, 1.5 hrs Consider hiking Mannen instead? Visit both Haukland Beach and Uttakleiv Beach
