We rented a VRBO with six beds for a week in Mammoth Lakes.
The condo had a BBQ, washer/dryer, WiFi, and access to a jacuzzi in the complex, which we utilized one night. There are bear proof trashcans out on the deck - and they were tested! The scraps from our dinners attracted a determined bear, who created quite a racket at 3 AM one night. Next morning we could see where the bear had bent the metal of the bear-proof trashcan, but it was unable to rip the top open.
For the week, the six of us spent about $4K - which to me seems like a bargain rate to have such a good vacation. Our biggest expense was obviously the VRBO rental. The fact that Ramone cooked so many of our dinners with his BBQ wizardry also helped keep costs in check (and the food he cooked up was as good as anything we could have gotten at a restaurant)!
