Florence to Eugene

74 miles, 444 miles trip total

September 15th

Today we turned inland, riding from the coast to Eugene. 74 miles was our longest day. It was uphill (but not steeply uphill) most of the first half, up until lunchtime. After Mapleton, we were riding on route 36 for the majority of our miles today (42 of our 74 miles were on route 36). This turned out to be a low-traffic road, so we didn't have to worry about vehicles passing us.

It was a warm sunny day, so we looked for places to get water, but there wasn't much along the way. The little towns we rode through seemed to have just a building or two.

We started early (we left the Florence coffee shop at 8 AM) and rolled into Eugene at 3:30 PM. I was pretty worn out by that point, but there was a Dairy Queen near the motel and that perked me up.

We took an Uber across town to find a brewery, and a place for dinner. Then we walked over to the Whole Foods to stock up on food to carry on the Amtrak for tomorrow. We had a 5:30 AM train to catch in Eugene, and a six hour ride back to Seattle.

We rode to Eugene today.
